 The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and was introduced for discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is currently presenting his views on the bill.

Earlier this morning, opposition MPs caused a commotion in the Rajya Sabha regarding the statement made by BJP MP Anurag Thakur about Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday.

Actually, Thakur has alleged that there is corruption in Wakf land in Karnataka, implicating Congress President Kharge. In response, Kharge stated, "Prove the allegations or resign."



Kharge stated, "If Anurag Thakur can prove that he or any member of his family possesses even 1 inch of Waqf Board land, then I will resign from the position of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha."

Earlier, the Wakf Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday following 12 hours of discussion. A total of 520 MPs participated in the voting, which occurred at 2 am. Of those, 288 voted in favour, while 232 voted against it. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has named the initiative Umeed (Unified Waqf Management Empowerment, Efficiency and Development). This bill is set to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha today.
